Room 103 of the Art Hotel Gran Paradiso in Sorrento hosts the work of Myriam Laplante, a Canadian artist born in Chittagong (Bangladesh) in 1954 and resident in Italy. His works transform the room into a place of reflection on contemporary society, highlighting the contradictions of daily life and the power relations that condition mass life.
For the Art Hotel Gran Paradiso, Myriam Laplante has created an installation that interprets the neuronal system in a plastic way. Using recycled materials such as pruned branches, cherry stones and latex, the artist creates representations of synapses, symbols of the short circuits of thought and the neuro-sensory overstimulation typical of the information society. The room thus becomes a visual metaphor of the flows and interferences that pass through the mind and contemporary life.
A versatile and non-conformist artist, Myriam Laplante works through performances, installations, photography and videos, often transformed into true meta-theatres. In his works he unmasks the mechanisms of social and political manipulation, giving art a critical and didactic value.
