"L'isola!"

Artist

Domenico Paladino, known as Mimmo Paladino, is among the leading exponents of the Transavanguardia, a Movement founded by renowned art critic Achille Bonito Oliva.

Born and raised in southern Italy, in Paduli, in an area rich in mysterious cultural contaminations, the artist has always been attracted to the “different,” a curiosity that led him on long journeys in the 1980s, the most important of which were those to the United States, where he set up his first solo exhibition, and especially the one to South America, where he had the opportunity to learn about the local culture and be influenced by primitive and tribal art.

The work

Mimmo Paladino’s Island is a reference to the work “Porta di Lampedusa-Porta d’Europa,” a monument by artist Mimmo Paladino located on the island of Lampedusa. This work serves as a memorial for migrants who lost their lives in the Mediterranean Sea. The work was sponsored by Amani and Arnoldo Mosca Mondadori.
